Get Involved with LBPS

LBPS is a collaborative palaeontology project, and there are several different ways to take part.

Creating an account, becoming a Contributor, obtaining Research Access, supporting LBPS, and partnering with the project are separate things.

Choose the route that matches how you would like to use or work with LBPS.

Create an LBPS account

Create an LBPS account to access My LBPS and the personal tools available to Members, including collection and recording features.

Creating an account does not make you an LBPS Contributor and does not grant Research Access.

What does an LBPS account give me?

An LBPS account gives you access to:

  • My LBPS
  • Your own My Collection area
  • Tools for recording collecting activity and fossil finds
  • Fossil image and collection tools available to registered users
  • The ability to contribute records, photographs and observations where the relevant tool allows it

Anyone interested in fossils, palaeontology, or geology can create an LBPS account. You do not need to own a fossil collection or have specialist knowledge.

Beginners, experienced collectors, students, researchers and anyone interested in learning more are welcome.

What happens when I create my account?

  1. Complete the website account form below.
  2. We will send an activation email to the address you provide.
  3. Open the activation page and confirm that you want to activate your account.
  4. Your LBPS account will be created, and your Personal Collection will be provisioned automatically.
  5. You can then use My LBPS and the tools available to Members.

Creating an account does not automatically make you a Contributor or grant Research Access.

Become an LBPS Contributor

LBPS Contributors are approved participants who contribute scientific, collection, or data material to the project.

You need an active LBPS account before you can submit a Contributor application.

Contributor approval is separate from Research Access and does not automatically grant access to the Research Hub scientific workspace.

Research Access

Research Access is a separate approval for people who require access to the LBPS scientific research workspace and associated research tools.

Having an LBPS account or being an approved Contributor does not automatically provide Research Access.

Support LBPS

You can support the development of LBPS financially or practically.

Support is separate from Contributor status and Research Access. Donations or other financial support do not provide scientific permissions or additional access rights.

Partner with LBPS

LBPS welcomes enquiries from museums, universities, geological and field clubs, collections, research groups and other organisations interested in working with the project.

Partnership is an organisational relationship and is separate from an individual LBPS account or Contributor status.
