Compiled by Alan Morton, this extensive online collection provides a valuable visual resource for exploring and comparing fossil material from Eocene and Oligocene deposits in England.
It is particularly useful for fossil identification, visual comparison and exploring the diversity of Eocene and Oligocene faunas.
Kent Fossil Database — Tony Mitchell
Curated by Tony Mitchell, the Kent Fossil Database records fossil specimens held in private collections together with associated taxonomic, geological and locality information.
It is particularly useful for exploring recorded fossil material from Kent and for preserving the connection between specimens and their provenance.
London Clay Fossils — Tom Sermon
London Clay Fossils is a specialist resource developed by Tom Sermon focusing on the identification and comparison of Eocene fossils from the London Clay, with particular depth in fossil fish.
The site includes fossil records, identification guidance and photographic material from public and private collections.
British Geological Survey
The British Geological Survey provides authoritative geological information for Great Britain.
The BGS Geology Viewer is useful for exploring mapped bedrock and superficial geology, while the BGS Lexicon of Named Rock Units provides definitions and geological context for named formations, members and other rock units.
These resources are used for geological context. Geological information from BGS does not by itself establish that a particular fossil species occurs at a locality or within a geological unit.
