Join LBPS

Start by creating your LBPS website account. Your website account gives you access to My LBPS and our online fossil recording and collection tools.

Your website account is separate from formal Society membership. Creating and activating an account does not by itself make you a current member of the London Basin Palaeontological Society.

What does an LBPS website account give me?

  • Access to My LBPS
  • Your own Personal Collection area
  • Tools for recording collecting activity and fossil finds
  • Access to LBPS fossil image and collection tools available to registered website users
  • The ability to contribute records, photographs and observations to the LBPS fossil database where the relevant tool allows it

Who can create an account?

Anyone with an interest in fossils, palaeontology or the geology of the London Basin can create an LBPS website account.

You do not need to own a fossil collection or have specialist knowledge. Beginners, experienced collectors, students, researchers and anyone interested in learning more are welcome.

What about Society membership?

Formal membership of the London Basin Palaeontological Society is a separate step on the same account.

Society membership is intended for people who want to take part in the wider life of LBPS, including Society activities, field trips, meetings, talks and other membership opportunities as they are made available.

Creating a website account does not submit a Society membership application and does not change your formal Society membership status.

Membership fees

Details of the Society’s annual membership subscription and payment arrangements will be published once confirmed. Website account creation is kept separate from Society membership and payment.

What happens when I create my website account?

  1. Complete the website account form below.
  2. We will send an activation email to the address you provide.
  3. Open the activation page and confirm that you want to activate your account.
  4. Your LBPS website account will be created and your Personal Collection will be provisioned automatically.
  5. Your formal Society membership status remains separate until you explicitly apply through the Society membership process.

Please make sure the email address you enter is correct, as it will be used to activate your website account and for essential account messages.
